Thousands of Lagos residents are counting their losses after days of heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across parts of the state. Homes, vehicles, businesses, and major roads were submerged, disrupting economic activities and leaving many people stranded. While government officials blamed the flooding on climate change and the city's low-lying terrain, many residents accused the authorities of failing to improve drainage systems and implement effective flood control measures.

Among those affected is commercial bus driver Fatai Saheed, who spent six hours trapped in traffic along the Agege Pen Cinema to Ojodu Berger route as floodwaters made the road impassable. Saheed said he refused to drive through the flood because a similar incident three years ago damaged his bus engine beyond repair. He added that he would rather lose a day's income than risk another costly repair, as residents continue to call for better flood prevention and drainage infrastructure.
