The House of Representatives has issued a strong warning to opposition politicians against taking actions that could damage Nigeria’s international reputation in their bid for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Deputy Spokesman of the House, Philip Agbese, made this call in response to what he characterized as politically motivated lobbying surrounding historical United States law-enforcement records concerning President Bola Tinubu.

Agbese explicitly called on U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration to ignore attempts by opposition figures to leverage foreign platforms to resolve domestic political disputes. He emphasized that internal political disagreements ought to be addressed through Nigeria’s own democratic institutions rather than through external channels that portray the nation in a negative light to the global community.

As preparations for the 2027 polls begin to gather momentum, the lawmaker stressed that national interestmust take precedence over partisan ambitions. He urged politicians from all parties to focus on issues that strengthen the country's democracy and global standing, rather than actions that undermine public confidence both at home and abroad.
