U.S. PLACES 23 COUNTRIES ON HIGHEST LEVEL 4 TRAVEL ADVISORY
July 18, 2026
The United States Department of State has placed 23 countries on its highest Level 4 travel advisory, urging Americans to avoid travelling to the affected nations due to security risks and limited consular assistance. The countries include Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad and 11 others.
Nigeria remains under a Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" advisory, while several states, including Borno, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, Rivers, Imo and Anambra, are designated Level 4 because of terrorism, kidnapping, crime and civil unrest. The Nigerian government, however, described the advisory as a routine precaution that does not reflect the country's overall security situation.
