TINUBU ORDERS IMMEDIATE RESCUE OF NIGER STATE ABDUCTION VICTIMS

August 26, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security and intelligence agencies to immediately launch a coordinated operation to rescue victims of the latest mass abduction in Niger State.

The directive followed an attack by armed men in Borgu Local Government Area of the state, where worshippers were reportedly abducted during Friday prayers on August 21.

The attackers also raided communities including Dekara, Gidan-Zana and Sabon Gida, with reports of innocent residents being killed during the attacks.

President Tinubu condemned the incidents, describing the perpetrators as enemies of peace and humanity.

The President directed the Service Chiefs to provide regular updates on the rescue operation until all abducted persons are accounted for.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the growing activities of armed groups in Nigeria’s North-Central region, particularly their ability to target remote communities and carry out mass abductions.

Security agencies are expected to intensify operations across the affected areas as efforts continue to locate and safely rescue the victims.
