SUPER FALCONS TO GET NEW COACHING CREW BEFORE 2028 OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

August 19, 2026

The Super Falcons are set to have a new technical crew before resuming their 2028 Women’s Olympic qualifying campaign in October, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has hinted.

The development follows the decision by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday to ask the technical crew, led by coach Justine Madugu, to step down after the team’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Super Falcons suffered their earliest-ever exit at the tournament after losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals.

The defeat also meant Nigeria missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Their hopes were eventually ended after a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the CAF play-off.

With the 2028 Olympic qualifiers scheduled to resume in October, the NFF and relevant sports authorities are expected to appoint a new technical crew to lead the team into the qualifying campaign.

Olopade’s comments suggest that the process of restructuring the Super Falcons’ coaching setup is already being considered ahead of the team’s next major assignment.
