The Nigeria Union of Pensioners has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the payment of ₦39.6 billion in pension increase arrears owed to retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme. The union's National President, Godwin Abumisi, described the payment as a major step toward improving the welfare of pensioners and elderly Nigerians.

Abumisi said the payment, alongside other pension interventions by the Federal Government, demonstrates the administration's commitment to settling outstanding pension liabilities and ensuring regular pension payments.
