The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced full digital registration of births and deaths in Ekiti State under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system. The commission also announced plans to expand its registration network nationwide from 4,011 to about 8,000 centres to improve access to civil registration services.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner of the NPC in Ekiti State, Kola Alabi, made the announcement during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti. He described the initiative as a landmark reform designed to modernise Nigeria’s civil registration system through the deployment of digital technology.

Alabi explained that the digital registration exercise is part of the nationwide rollout of the VitalReg platform, which commenced on July 1, 2026, across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He added that the initiative builds on the launch of the E-CRVS system and the inauguration of the National Coordination Committee on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on November 8, 2023.
