NIGERIAN ARMY BEGINS OPERATIONALISATION OF FOUR NEW DIVISIONS TO TACKLE INSECURITY
August 13, 2026
The Nigerian Army has commenced the process of operationalising four newly created divisions as part of efforts to strengthen its operational capacity and improve the fight against insecurity across the country.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved the expansion of the Army from eight to 12 divisions, with new headquarters to be established in Benue, Kwara and Taraba states, alongside an additional formation in Edo State.
The restructuring is expected to decentralise the Army’s command structure, improve response times and enhance the military’s ability to tackle emerging security threats across the country.
The new formations will support operations against banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and communal clashes, while bringing military command and resources closer to areas facing security challenges.
The initiative will also be supported by the planned recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel and improved logistics to enhance the effectiveness and welfare of troops deployed across the country.
