NCDC PLACES NIGERIA ON HIGH ALERT OVER EBOLA OUTBREAKS IN DR CONGO, UGANDA

May 25, 2026

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has placed the country on heightened alert over the risk of Ebola Virus Disease importation, following worsening outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

In an emergency preparedness update, NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris said Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed case linked to the current regional outbreak but has activated nationwide surveillance and response systems to prevent possible spread.

The agency warned that factors such as international travel, population movement, porous borders, and delayed symptom detection are increasing the country’s vulnerability, following the World Health Organisation’s declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
