May 19, 2026

Condemnations have followed the bandits’ attack on three schools in Oriire LGA of Oyo State, where about 30 students and teachers were abducted and two people killed. A viral video later showed the killing of a teacher, identified as Michael Oyedokun, which sparked outrage nationwide.

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the number of abducted victims and said the state is working with security agencies to secure their release. He added that the government is willing to listen to the abductors’ demands if it would ensure the safe return of the victims.

President Bola Tinubu condemned the attack as barbaric and expressed sympathy to the families and the Oyo State government, assuring that efforts are ongoing to rescue those still in captivity.
