FG TARGETS $750M PRIVATE INVESTMENT IN CLOUD, DATA INFRASTRUCTURE
September 01, 2026
The Federal Government has unveiled plans to attract $750 million in private sector investment in local cloud and data infrastructure over the next 24 months.
The government also announced plans to roll out a nationwide 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, disclosed this on Monday at the GITEX 2026 Government Leadership & AI Summit in Abuja.
Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office, Bekearedebo Warrens, said the initiatives form part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategy to transform Nigeria from a technology consumer into a global exporter of digital solutions.
He said increased investment in cloud computing, data infrastructure and broadband connectivity would help drive digital transformation, support innovation and create new opportunities across the Nigerian economy.
The Federal Government is expected to work with private sector investors and other stakeholders to deliver the planned infrastructure and position Nigeria as a stronger player in the global digital economy.
