August 27, 2026

The Federal Government has disbursed more than ₦600 billion in cash transfers to vulnerable Nigerians over the past three years, reaching slightly over 10 million households.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, disclosed the cumulative figure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the cash transfer programme is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to provide social protection and support vulnerable households across the country.

The disclosure comes as the Federal Government launches a new $1 billion social protection programme known as the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Social Protection Project (HOPE-SP).

The initiative is being implemented under the broader Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme and is aimed at strengthening social protection measures while improving the livelihoods and economic opportunities of vulnerable Nigerians.

The Federal Government said the programme is expected to complement existing interventions and deepen efforts to reduce poverty and improve household welfare.
