August 19, 2026

The Federal Government has announced that another batch of 83 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa is expected to arrive in Lagos today, Wednesday, August 19, amid renewed concerns over Afrophobic attacks and anti-foreigner sentiments in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the returnees are scheduled to depart Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 3:35 p.m. local time aboard South African Airways.

The evacuees are expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 8:45 p.m.

The latest evacuation is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to assist Nigerians affected by concerns over xenophobic and anti-foreigner sentiments in South Africa.

Authorities are expected to receive and provide necessary support to the returnees upon their arrival in Nigeria.
