ALIKO DANGOTE INCREASES ETHIOPIA FERTILISER PLANT INVESTMENT TO OVER $4 BILLION

May 19, 2026

Aliko Dangote has increased his planned investment in a fertiliser plant in Ethiopia to over $4 billion, nearly doubling the project’s original $2.5 billion estimate. He disclosed this during a visit where he met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and inspected the project site.

The expansion now includes added infrastructure such as a 110km pipeline, a 120MW power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant to support production and logistics.

Abiy described the project as strategic for Ethiopia’s agriculture, saying it would boost food security, reduce fertiliser imports, create jobs, and drive economic growth as construction progresses.
