ADELEKE ENDORSES TINUBU FOR 2027, CALLS FOR PEACE AFTER OSUN RE-ELECTION
August 17, 2026
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has explained his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027, saying the President deserves another opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects, particularly across the South-West.
Adeleke made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, shortly after winning the August 15 Osun State governorship election and securing a fresh mandate.
The governor dismissed speculation that his support for Tinubu was based on any political agreement connected to the governorship election.
According to Adeleke, there was no deal between him and the President, stressing that his endorsement was based on his personal assessment of Tinubu’s performance and the need for continuity in ongoing development initiatives.
Meanwhile, Adeleke has called for peace and unity across Osun State following his re-election, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) considers its legal options after losing the governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke winner with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 councils.
The result was announced on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, officially confirming Adeleke’s return for a second term.
